Do you want to build your skills and challenge ways of doing and being in ECEC?
Big Steps Professional Learning is offering 10 fully paid scholarships* to the
2023 ECA National Conference, held in Adelaide on 4-7 October.
Kumarninthi—Becoming one: Old ways, new wisdom is the theme for the 35th ECA National Conference, to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
The theme title reinforces that although we still hold on to and value old ways, theoretical perspectives, and knowledge, there is and can be a contemporary approach to implementing this into new wisdom and becoming one.
The ECA National Conference provides a platform for professional discourse relevant to the rights, wellbeing and early education of young children (birth to eight years). It is attended by early childhood educators, teachers, service leaders and executives, as well as policy-makers, program administrators, academics, researchers, and those involved in pre-qualification training and ongoing professional development.
Scholarship winners* are union members, just like you, who are selected to attend the conference on behalf of their union. Scholarships can consist of winning:
- 1 of 5 full in-person registrations to the 2023 ECA National Conference,
- 1 of 5 virtual registrations to the 2023 ECA National Conference,
- funded transport fees to support you to attend the conference,
- access to Union and community networking events,
- a Big Steps Professional Learning scholarship winner pack.
Attending the conference is a great way for you to advance your teaching practice and broaden your understanding of theoretical perspectives and knowledge in ECEC. Under a scholarship with Big Steps Professional Learning, you’ll receive support and funding that will allow you to engage in rich professional development that will enhance your teaching experiences with children.
UWU encourages women, people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and members from non-English speaking backgrounds to apply for Big Steps Professional Learning scholarships to ensure all workers’ voices are presented at key sector events.
*In-person scholarships are only available to financial members of the United Workers Union, who live in the state where the event is held.
Virtual scholarships are open to United Workers Union Members in all other regions.

Join your union for early childhood educators.
We’re early educators, just like you, who have joined together to fight for respect, fairness and a world-class early education system that puts children and educators before profits. We campaign at centres for the rights of our coworkers, we negotiate better pay and conditions for educators, and we change government policy to create the early learning system Australia’s children and educators deserve.
