Alice Springs leaps into Big Steps

Alice Springs Big Steps Crisis Summit
Alice Springs held the final Big Steps Crisis Summit for 2011. Throughout the year, thousands of passionate directors, educators and owner operators have come together to speak with a United Voice about the need to fix the crisis in our sector: pay us professional wages. Here are some inspirational comments from the Alice Springs Summit....
Raelene Powell said at the Alice Springs Crisis Summit:
"My husband died six years ago. Before this, I had never worked, never had a drivers license, never went to University. Suddenly I had to enter the workforce.
I got my drivers license, pulled up my sleeves, went to UNI, got my diploma and joined a child care center as an educator.
I have grandchildren of my own who I love immensely. And I thought, why not share that love with many other children especially those in foster care.
I joined the workforce late in life and pretty soon, Ill be retiring. I hope I see the success of our campaign before I leave because the raise will make life easier for me. I would not have to struggle as hard as I am doing now.
More importantly, I want to pave the way for a brighter future for the women and men who will come after me."
